Cherry Snowball Cookies

These buttery shortbread-style cookies are rolled in powdered sugar and filled with a sweet maraschino cherry surprise — the perfect festive treat!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup 2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup powdered sugar plus extra for rolling
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup finely chopped pecans or walnuts optional
  • 24 maraschino cherries well drained and patted dry

Method
 

  1. Instructions:
  2. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Cream butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and mix well.
  4. Stir in flour, salt, and nuts (if using). Mix until dough forms.
  5. Scoop 1 tablespoon of dough, flatten slightly, place one cherry in the center, and wrap dough around it to form a ball.
  6. Place balls on prepared baking sheet about 1 inch apart.
  7. Bake 12–15 minutes, until set but not browned.
  8. While warm, roll cookies in powdered sugar. Let cool, then roll again for a snowy finish.

Notes

Notes:
Make sure cherries are well dried to avoid spreading.
Roll cookies twice in powdered sugar for best snowy appearance.
Store in an airtight container up to 5 days, or freeze for longer storage.
